Setting Students up for Success

Outstanding Exam Results and Outcomes

Godalming College is a sixth-form college with an outstanding reputation and a strong focus on community, in which teachers and students work in partnership to enable student success. It has a rich history, a grand façade, and is recognised as being one of the top-performing sixth form colleges in the UK, yet despite widely held beliefs, it continues to be non-selective, with entry requirements typically being five GCSEs at a Grade 4 and above.

Exam results in the summer of 2025 meant that the College was awarded an ALPS A Level Platinum Award for the second consecutive year. ALPS, the award-winning data analysis platform, benchmarks progress against other schools and colleges, measuring the difference between a student’s starting point and their final results. The ALPS Platinum Award demonstrates that the progress of Godalming College students matches the performance of the top 10% of providers in the dataset. They achieve significantly higher grades than predicted from their GCSE scores, reflecting the effectiveness of the teaching, learning, assessment, and support at Godalming, which enables students to maximise their potential.

Success isn’t defined solely by grades. Each student’s journey is unique, and outstanding achievement can take many forms. The College offers a diverse selection of courses and enrichment programmes complemented by a variety of extra-curricular opportunities, providing a well-rounded, rich and rewarding education. Every student is valued and heard at Godalming College, with excellent wellbeing support and facilities and a focus on equity and inclusion. For those willing to make the most of the opportunities available to them, such as trips, talks, clubs, leadership and the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award, resilience, adaptability and personal growth will be some of the key takeaways.

This year, 2025 leavers achieved some amazing results, with 91% of students who made UK university applications securing their first or insurance choice place. 20 of these headed to Oxford and Cambridge Universities to pursue a diverse range of courses, from Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic studies to Medicine, History and Engineering. 426 students were accepted into Russell Group Universities, representing 44% of all University applications for 2025. Other students chose different pathways such as a job, training or degree apprenticeship.

Adam Duce, Director of Student Futures, reflected: “I’m very pleased with the excellent hard work of our students and the impressive range of destinations they have moved onto after their time at Godalming College. We are very proud to support all future options for students, not just the traditional pathway to university, and with our newly launched mentoring programme, we have alumni advising current students on preparing for apprenticeship applications.”

Ultimately, a college’s performance is measured by the successes and achievements of its students. Read more about our performance and exam results here.
